The memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide were commemorated in Maribor, Slovenia, on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the tragedy
On 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide commemorative event dedicated to the victims of the tragedy was held at the Dobrava Memorial Park in Maribor, Slovenia.
The commemorative event was held in front of the memorial plaque dedicated to the victims of Khojaly in the Dobrava Memorial Park.
The commemorative event was attended by Mr. Martin Premk, member of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Azerbaijan at the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr. Andrej Kompara, president of the Slovenia-Azerbaijan Friendship Society and members of the Friendship Society, representatives of local community.
Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Slovenia Rovshan Sadigbayli informed the participants of the event about the Khojaly genocide committed against the Azerbaijani civilian population in 1992. The Ambassador noted that this tragedy was not the only crime committed against the civilian population of Azerbaijan, and brought to the attention of the participants of the event that during the conflict, peaceful residents of many other cities, towns and villages of Azerbaijan were subjected to similar atrocities.
Referring to the resolution adopted by the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia in 2016, in which Khojaly genocide was described as crime against humanity, Ambassador thanked the City Municipality of Maribor and the Government of Slovenia for the respect to the memory of the victims of Khojaly.
Wreaths were laid in front of the memorial plaque dedicated to the victims of the Khojaly genocide.
