From 12 to 15 January, “Turkic Week” jointly organized by the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) and the Permanent Missions of its Member States to the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) is being held in Vienna.

“Turkic Week” commenced with the ceremonial opening of the exhibition entitled “The Turkic World on the Silk Road” at the UN Office at Vienna.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition, organized by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the International Organizations in Vienna, was attended by Mr. Kubanychbek Omuraliev, the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States, Mr. Samir Sharifov the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, senior officials of a number of international organizations based at the UN Office at Vienna, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Vienna.

At the opening ceremony, a statement was delivered by Mr. Samir Sharifov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, representing Azerbaijan, which currently holds the Chairmanship of the Organization of Turkic States. In his remarks, Mr. Sharifov outlined the priorities of Azerbaijan’s Chairmanship of the OTS and referred to the Nakhchivan Agreement signed for the establishment of the Organization of Turkic States, the Gabala Declaration adopted at the 12th Summit of the Heads of State of the OTS, as well as the substance and significance of the declaration adopted at the Informal Summit held in Budapest. Highlighting the economic potential of cooperation among the Turkic States, he underscored the role of the “Middle Corridor” in enhancing connectivity between East and West. Within the framework of his statement, Mr. Sharifov also addressed current issues of cooperation among Turkic States in the fields of culture, science, and education, noting that the first Turkological Congress dedicated to the study of the common Turkic cultural heritage and language was held in Baku 100 years ago, and informed participants that the 2nd Turkology Congress will also be hosted in Baku later this year.

During the opening ceremony of the exhibition, statements were also delivered by the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States, Mr. Kubanychbek Omuraliev, as well as senior representatives of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The exhibition features photographs and exhibits reflecting the rich cultural heritage and ancient history of the Turkic peoples.

Within the framework of the visit, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Samir Sharifov and OTS Secretary General Kubanychbek Omuraliev also held meetings with Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mr. Driss El-Hadani, Deputy Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), and Ms. Fatou Haidara, Deputy Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). During these meetings, potential areas of cooperation between the Organization of Turkic States and the respective international organizations were discussed.

In addition, within the framework of “Turkic Week,” a roundtable discussion entitled “From the Silk Road to the Middle Corridor: Promoting Connectivity through Transport and Trade Facilitation” is planned to be held at the headquarters of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). The programme of events also includes a gala concert with the participation of artists from the turkic states, as well as the third training programme aimed at enhancing the diaspora potential of the Organization of Turkic States.

                                                    Turkische Woche in Wien

Vom 12. bis 15. Januar findet in Wien die „Turkische Woche“ statt, die gemeinsam von der Organisation der Turkstaaten (OTS) und den Ständigen Vertretungen ihrer Mitgliedstaaten bei den Vereinten Nationen in Wien organisiert wird.

Die „Turkische Woche“ begann mit der feierlichen Einweihung der Ausstellung „Die turkische Welt an der Seidenstraße“ im Büro der Vereinten Nationen in Wien.

An der Einweihung der Ausstellung, die von der Ständigen Vertretung der Republik Aserbaidschan bei den internationalen Organisationen in Wien organisiert wurde, nahmen Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Generalsekretär der Organisation der Turkstaaten, Samir Scharifov, stellvertretender Außenminister der Republik Aserbaidschan, hochrangige Vertreter einer Reihe von internationalen Organisationen mit Sitz im Büro der Vereinten Nationen in Wien sowie Vertreter des in Wien akkreditierten diplomatischen Corps teil.

Bei der Einweihung hielt der stellvertretende Außenminister Samir Scharifov eine Einführungsrede im Namen seines Landes, das derzeit den Vorsitz der OTS innehat. Samir Scharifov sprach über die Prioritäten des aserbaidschanischen Vorsitzes der Organisation der Turkstaaten sowie ber Nachitschevan-Abkommen, mit dem der Grundstein der erwähnten Organisation gelegt wurde. Er verwies auf die Gabala-Erklärung, die auf dem 12. Gipfeltreffen der Staatschefs der Organisation der Turkstaaten unterzeichnet wurde, und auf den Inhalt der Erklärung, die auf dem informellen Gipfeltreffen in Budapest verabschiedet wurde. Er ging auf das wirtschaftliche Potenzial der Zusammenarbeit zwischen den Turkstaaten ein und hob dabei die Rolle des „Mittleren Korridors” zwischen Ost und West hervor. Im Rahmen seiner Rede sprach der stellvertretende Aussenminister zudem über Kultur, Wissenschaft und Bildung. Er wies darauf hin, dass der 1. Turkologie-Kongress, der sich mit dem gemeinsamen turkischen Kulturerbe und der Sprache befasste, vor 100 Jahren in Baku stattfand und dass der 2. Turkologie-Kongress ebenfalls in diesem Jahr ebenfalls in Baku stattfinden wird.

Bei der Einweihung der Ausstellung hielten unter anderem Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Generalsekretär der Organisation der Turkstaaten, sowie sowie hochrangige Vertreter des Büros der Vereinten Nationen für Drogen- und Verbrechensbekämpfung (UNODC), der Organisation der Vereinten Nationen für industrielle Entwicklung (UNIDO) und der Internationalen Atomenergie-Organisation (IAEO) Ansprachen.

Die Ausstellung führt Fotografien und Exponate auf, die das reiche kulturelle Erbe und die alte Geschichte der Turkvölker widerspiegeln.

Im Rahmen des Besuchs trafen sich der stellvertretende Außenminister Samir Sharifov und Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Generalsekretär der Organisation der Turkstaaten, u.a. mit Rafael Mariano Grossi, dem Generaldirektor der Internationalen Atomenergie-Organisation (IAEO), Driss El-Hadani,  dem stellvertretenden Direktor des Büros der Vereinten Nationen für Weltraumfragen (UNOOSA), und Fatou Haidara, der stellvertretenden Generaldirektorin der Organisation der Vereinten Nationen für industrielle Entwicklung (UNIDO), zusammen. Bei diesen Treffen wurden mögliche Bereiche der Zusammenarbeit zwischen der Organisation der Turkstaaten und den jeweiligen internationalen Organisationen erörtert.

Darüber hinaus findet im Rahmen der „Turkischen Woche“ eine Diskussionsrunde mit dem Titel „Von der Seidenstraße zum Mittleren Korridor: Förderung der Konnektivität durch Erleichterung von Transport und Handel“ im Hauptquartier der Organisation für Sicherheit und Zusammenarbeit in Europa (OSZE) statt.

Das Veranstaltungsprogramm wird mit einem Galakonzert mit Künstlern aus den Turkstaaten sowie dem dritten Schulungsprogramm zur Stärkung des Diaspora-Potenzials der Organisation der Turkstaaten abgerundet.
