Head of the Oghuz District Executive Power paid a visit to Slovenia

Mr. Javid Abdul-Gadirov, Head of the Oghuz District Executive Power paid a visit to the Republic of Slovenia. The visit was related to holding meetings in the sister city of Oghuz – Nova Gorica, and to strengthening the friendly relations and cooperation between the two partner cities.

In the framework of the visit Mr. Javid Abdul-Gadirov met with his Slovenian counterpart Mr. Samo Turel, Mayor of the City Municipality of Nova Gorica. During the meeting views were exchanged on reinvigorating the relations and expanding cooperation between Oghuz and Nova Gorica in various fields, including culture, tourism, education, agriculture, as well as on the protection and efficient management of the environment and water resources.

In the presence of Mr. Javid Abdul-Gadirov, Head of the Oghuz District Executive Power and  Mr. Samo Turel, Mayor of the City Municipality of Nova Gorica, Ambassador Rovshan Sadigbayli presented the medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan "For service in Diaspora activity" to Mr. Andrej Kompara, president of the Slovenia-Azerbaijan Friendship Society.

By the decision of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Andrej Kompara has been awarded with the medal “For service in Diaspora activity” in recognition of his long-term contribution and efficient work in the development of the friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Slovenia.

In the framework of the visit Mr. J.Abdul-Gadirov visited the monument and memorial museum devoted to Hero Mehdi Huseynzadeh "Mihajlo" in Šempas and the memorial plaque at the place where “Mihajlo” was ambushed and killed in the village of Vitovlje.

During the visit, meeting was also held with Mr. Zoran Janković, Mayor of the City of Ljubljana and views were exchanged on expansion of cooperation and relations between the two friendly countries at the municipalities level.

Meetings were also held with Ms. Erika Lojk, General Manager of the Nova Gorica and Vipava Valley Tourist Board, and with the representatives of the Ljubljana Tourism, possible cooperation and exchange of experience in the field of tourism was discussed.

In the framework of the visit, Khojaly Memorial at the Dobrava Memorial Park in Maribor was visited and the memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide was commemorated.
