Slovak Republic
The Slovak Republic recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan on January 24, 1992. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on November 23, 1993.
Azerbaijan is represented in the Slovak Republic by the Embassy of our country in Austria. The Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Baku was established on November 28, 2019.
The Azerbaijani- Slovak Inter-parliamentary Working Group is functioning in the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Parliamentary Friendship Group with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan is functioning in the Slovak Parliament. Both groups play an important role in expanding inter-parliamentary relations.
High-level visits
On March 18-19, 2004 President of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev visited Slovakia.
On November 12-14, 2018 Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Mr. Peter Pellegrini visited Azerbaijan.
June 12-16, 2015 Speaker of the Parliament of the Slovak Republic Mr. Peter Pellegrini visited Azerbaijan (to attend the opening ceremony of the First European Games Baku 2015).
On 28-29 August 2004, 26 January 2015, 3 September 2015 and 3-6 December 2019 Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Elmar Mammadyarov visited Slovakia.
Visits of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic to Azerbaijan: Eduard Kukan - January 31 - February 2, 2000, Jân Kubiš - April 28, 2008, Miroslav Lajčák - March 14-16, 2010, March 5, 2019 (as OSCE Chairperson-in-Office) and November 28, 2019.
